Period Poverty in India Zine Design 2022
Period poverty in India has been a prevalent issue over the past decades. In many rural regions of the country, there is a significant lack of reproductive health knowledge, and as a result, limited resources targeted specifically toward young women. I wanted to create a zine (my first!) to educate individuals about this issue. The call to action was to support or donate to reproductive health organizations in India. For me, the biggest challenge of this project was developing an illustration style.
Personal Project
After deciding on the content, my next challenge was to work on the general layout of the pages. It was important to consider scale and readability at this juncture. I chose to with an A4 size paper. A big moment of learning for me was that the scale at which I was working on each page was completely different than the final print version. I went through multiple iterations of font size and formatting to come up with something that was legible and flowed well with the illustrations to create a cohesive composition.
